Robert Gustavson · Creative, business, learning & narrative systems

Find the pressure point. Build the thing people can use.

I help people and organizations turn complicated ideas into finished, useful deliverables: screenplays, scripts, story development, songs and lyrical concepts, SOPs, playbooks, curriculum, executive briefs, proposals, scenarios, and business materials.

I do not begin by polishing language. I begin with the audience, evidence, workflow, decision points, handoffs, and human obstacles. Then I build the document or system the situation actually needs.

Why the range belongs together

One creative ecosystem—not a random list of services.

Slight Angle Studios develops stories, screenplays, children's books, audio sing-alongs, lullabies, learning materials, research, and practical business systems. The connective tissue is Patternomics: a framework for observing how patterns interact with context, relationships, incentives, communication, and larger systems. The foundational paper is publicly archived on Zenodo under DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21040834.

A character problem, a broken handoff, a confusing training process, and a weak customer message can look unrelated. My job in each case is to identify the pattern underneath, understand what the audience needs, and translate the finding into something people can feel, understand, or use. Publicly, I explain the bridge; the proprietary implementation system remains protected.

What I do

Different deliverables. One underlying strength.

I notice the signal a team has normalized, connect it to the larger system, and translate the finding into language and tools people can act on.

Operational diagnosis

Workflow · readiness · customer experience

Identify bottlenecks, fragile handoffs, unclear ownership, and expectation failures without defaulting to blame.

  • Workflow and communication audits
  • Readiness and failure-point reviews
  • Customer or stakeholder journey analysis

SOPs and playbooks

Make the response usable under pressure

Turn scattered knowledge into a system a real person can follow when time, attention, and certainty are limited.

  • SOPs and operating checklists
  • Escalation and ownership maps
  • Response templates and decision briefs

Grants and proposals

Evidence · positioning · decision logic

Connect the funder's or buyer's criteria to a defensible case, a credible plan, and a clear ask.

  • Grant and RFP response development
  • Business and partnership proposals
  • Pitch decks and executive summaries

Curriculum and training

Teach complexity without flattening it

Design learning systems that move from concept to scenario, guided practice, evidence, and practical transfer.

  • Curriculum and lesson architecture
  • Facilitator guides and participant tools
  • Workshops and training materials

Narrative communication

Stories · scripts · presentations

Use character, sequence, tension, and audience perspective to make complex information memorable and human.

  • Screenplays and narrative scripts
  • Case studies and scenario design
  • Music, lyrics, and story-led learning

Adversarial review

Find the reason it fails before the audience does

Pressure-test assumptions, claims, evidence, handoffs, and edge cases before a proposal, process, or product goes live.

  • Red-team document review
  • Claims and evidence checks
  • Revision plans with acceptance gates
How I work

Diagnosis before decoration.

DefineClarify the real decision, audience, and constraints.
MapExpose the workflow, evidence, handoffs, and failure points.
BuildCreate the smallest complete tool that solves the problem.
Stress-testChallenge assumptions and test whether people can use it.
HandoffDeliver clear source files, boundaries, and next actions.
Experience behind the work

I learned systems from inside overloaded human environments.

Operational credibility

My perspective was built across military medicine, high-volume pharmacy operations, community fundraising, entrepreneurship, and creative production. That work taught me to assess workflow, clarify handoffs, train people, manage competing priorities, and separate process failures from people problems.

I could work the patient window while tracking the entire pharmacy because customer expectations, upstream production, product availability, and team communication were all part of one system.

Creative credibility

The studio's working catalog spans original screenplays, storyworlds, children's concepts, songs, audio work, curriculum, founder writing, and business documentation. Selected excerpts and client-relevant samples are presented publicly; internal governance material and proprietary production machinery are not.

The creative work is not separate from the consulting work. Narrative, sequence, audience perspective, and human behavior are also what make systems, training, memos, and playbooks understandable and usable.

Proof of range

Selected samples for different buyer problems.

The public portfolio is being organized around buyer outcomes rather than internal process: creative writing and story development, business and operational documentation, and learning materials. Each marketplace offering will point only to the few samples most relevant to that client.

Business proof in plain sight

Slight Angle Studios is also a working business case study.

The business-services lane is not based only on a list of things I say I can do. I have used the same method to organize, launch, and connect this studio—creative catalog, service architecture, operating documents, website, inquiry flow, analytics, and marketplace positioning—without pretending the internal machinery is the product.

Brand and offer architecture

One company with distinct doors for stories, music and audio, learning, research, business services, partnerships, and mission-aligned pilots—connected without making the range look random.

  • Brand and messaging system
  • Service and audience architecture
  • Channel roles and cross-link map

Website and lead infrastructure

A deployed production site with versioned rollback, structured inquiry capture, a governed Google lead sheet, channel tracking links, sitemap, organization data, and privacy-first traffic analytics.

  • Information architecture and copy
  • Lead intake and source tracking
  • Live QA and performance measurement

Documents people can use

The studio's source evidence includes a business plan, brand system, SOPs, curriculum and facilitator materials, executive decision briefs, trackers, and budget models. Public samples are selected and redacted by buyer problem.

  • SOPs, playbooks, and checklists
  • Plans, proposals, and decision materials
  • Curriculum, scenarios, and facilitator tools

What a client receives: a defined deliverable, documented inputs, stated exclusions, clear source files, a limited revision scope, and a final handoff. Ongoing support is not assumed.

“I didn't realize I'd been driving blind - never stopped long enough to read the signs.” That is the work: notice what has been normalized, then build a better path.
Founding-client engagements: I am accepting three clearly scoped launch projects at a reduced fixed fee. The work receives the same professional process and deliverables; I ask for candid process feedback and permission to present an anonymized case study. There is no obligation to leave a public review.
Mission-aligned nonprofit pilots: I reserve limited capacity for pro bono or reduced-rate projects serving veterans, recovery communities, trauma-affected populations, youth, and underserved communities. Eligible projects are tightly scoped writing, documentation, communications, curriculum, and operational materials—such as SOPs, playbooks, grant narratives, facilitator materials, escalation resources, program messaging, and after-action reports. Selection depends on fit, scope, and capacity. These engagements do not include clinical treatment, legal advice, or cybersecurity services; any testimonial is optional and must be candid.
